Introduction to Part 4:

HAVE YOU STARTED MAKING YOUR AMENDS?

HAVE YOU STARTED TO EXPERIENCE FREEDOM?

We have come to the final 3 steps of the program. Steps 10, 11 and 12. These are the daily maintenance steps which will keep us sober one day at a time.

WHAT WE WILL COVER in Part 4, the final Session: Steps 10, 11 & 12

  • How to do a daily 10th step
  • The 10th Step promises
  • How to STAY sober
  • Is Prayer enough?
  • How do you sponsor someone?
  • How not to sponsor someone
  • When are you ready to sponsor someone?
  • The one thing that will guarantee sobriety
  • The importance of letting others struggle
  • How long sober do you have to be to sponsor others?
  • The 12th step promises
  • Living in sobriety

Before continuing, we strongly suggest that you:

a) Complete your list of people you have harmed

b) Start making your amends

STEP 10

"We continue to take personal inventory and when wrong promptly admitted it."

P.84/paragraph 2: “This thought brings us to Step Ten, which suggests we continue to take personal inventory and continue to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We vigorously commenced this way of living as we cleaned up the past. We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness. This is not an overnight matter. It should continue for our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help. Love and tolerance of others is our code.”

Here the authors are telling us how to do a daily 10th step.

They are telling us not to leave it will the end of the day but to LIVE Step 10 THROUGHOUT the day.

The Authors also show us how to carry out 4 spiritual practices:

1) WATCH - observe the negative defects of character

2) ASK - pray to G-d to remove them

3) DISCUSS - share with someone else in the program

4) TURN - turn it around and focus on giving

10th step promises:

“And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone - even acting-out. For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in acting-out. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened automatically. We will see that our new attitude toward acting-out has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes! That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality - safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is our experience. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.”

These promises are GUARANTEED to us on one condition … We have to stay in fit spiritual condition.

%"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen."

We have then completed Step Seven.
